Squerryes 2018 Vendage

Updated: Mar 31, 2020

So pleased I accepted our invitation by Squerryes to attend their harvest or ‘vendage’.  Hidden away at one of their vineyards off Pilgrims Way, Westerham, it was a wonderful celebration of an exceptional growing year.  I am no expert, but I have read that this is to be one of the best years on record for English wine growers, all that lovely hot sunshine we had.

Continuing with wonderful sunshine yesterday, there were crates to sit and a fantastic BBQ to graze on!  Lots of families, children and dogs all having a great afternoon. Armed with our secateurs, we picked bunches of grapes. Our crate was piled high with ripe sweet berries ready to be pressed. We were rewarded with corks for exchanging into glasses of sparkling wine.  What a glorious way to spend time, sipping a glass of sparkling Squerryes, in the Autumn sunshine, in the middle of beautiful countryside and a vineyard, stretching as far as the eye can see… We will most definitely  be back next year and a perfect opportunity to invite the extended family. A highly successful event for Squerryes, as us members “had helped pick about 7 tonnes of Pinot Noir fruit

A record was possibly set (not by us I better add) at 17 crates by one family!

Can’t wait to sample the 2018 Squerryes Vintage!
